On Wednesday, November 23rd, we attended the launch of ‘Career LEAP’ in the beautiful surroundings of the chapel at Trinity College. This programme was developed by Trinity College Dublin’s Head of School of Education, Professor Carmel O’Sullivan in conjunction with Swan Youth Service, East Wall Youth, Business in the Community Ireland (BITCI), along with 18 prominent businesses in the area.

This project was a collaboration with visual artist Paula Barrett, graffiti artist Tom McDonald and a group of teenagers from East Wall Youth. The aim of the project was to raise participants awareness of contemporary arts practice through engagement with the techniques of graffiti writing. The work produced centered on themes of identity and transience, which participants explored through stop motion animation, light graffiti, sound recording and photography. Light graffiti, also known as light painting is a photographic technique in which exposures are made usually at night or in a darkened room by moving a hand-held light source or by moving the camera. An exhibition of the work was held in St. Marys Youth Club in East Wall in December 2007, which included a sound installation, printed and projected images and performance.
